Drawing on her architectural background, Shaunagh Ashby’s practice is concerned with the interactions of light, colour, space and movement in both two and three dimensions.

Working in the genre of abstraction, her process involves compositions generated by overlaying layers of transparent colours to create a sense of being suspended in colour and light. Her palette explores the visual energy and tension between colour relationships and the emotional response they provoke. Her interest is in the dynamic created by abstract geometries and forms. In this exhibition she plays with colour harmonies applied to both canvas and the sculptural forms of cardboard packaging to create vibrant colour rhythms reminiscent of music.

ABOUT SHAUNAGH ASHBY

Shaunagh Ashby is an emerging Australian artist based on Cammeraygal and Gadigal land in Eora, Sydney. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at the National Art School in Sydney in 2023 and holds a Bachelor of Architecture (hons) from UNSW, Sydney. She worked for many years as an architect before choosing to focus on art. She is part of Oneplus2 Artist Studios in Balmain. Colour Rhythms is her first solo show.
