JR does Mardi Gras with On the Road to Enmore, celebrating our Australian LGBTQIA+ Community with Rainbow-coloured ceramic sculptures and Claytoons, featuring iconic “Queer-peeps” and concepts! The exhibition aims to reflect respect, acceptance of differences, and inclusion, while acknowledging the traditional custodians of this land and honouring the brave “’78ers” who started our Sydney Mardi Gras. On the Road to Enmore is also about having fun, and we will party to the rousing music of “The Radical Riff Raff Marching Band,” who will perform at 6.30 to open the exhibition with a jazz swing!

ABOUT JANICE RAYNOR

I am a clayworker who has been celebrating Mardi Gras for over 30 years in Newtown exhibitions, and this is the first time at the Tiliqua Tiliqua Gallery. Mardi Gras has always been a special celebration, especially in the early days when it was challenging to be open about one’s sexuality, and it allowed me the opportunity to celebrate and support ACON and those living with AIDS, campaign for the decriminalisation of LGBTQIA+ relationships, and promote same-sex marriage. Serious issues are combined with humour to make a statement and celebrate our Rainbow community with PRIDE. I have been accepted as an official Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2026 small event.
