‘Carried’ explores creating when a full life comes along for the ride. Lines held in sketches simultaneously trace memories, family history and loved ones scattered all over the globe. The artists have been brought together in visual adventures, as well as a shared passion for expanding their art practices. The exhibition expresses its theme ‘Carried’ drawn in the mediums of printmaking and painting.
Fiona Verity is a drawing addict. Her relentless curiosity drives her to capture people, places and objects with an ever-evolving approach. Being supported by her Art school female friends and a daily dose of nature has ‘Carried’ Fiona through recent difficult family challenges. Fiona’s dynamic pictures depict a cocktail cure of positivity, uplift and joy.
Lucy Russell is drawn to seeking out the unseen, the places we pass by and the spaces in between, with the goal of capturing the essence of Stillness. By letting her imagination wander through her surroundings, she is ‘Carried’ into new places and moments that provide a reprieve from the onslaught of daily information, lists, logistics and the mental load of motherhood.
Through painting, Mary Benvenuto explores themes of human connection and disconnection combined with complex emotions and memories ‘Carried’ within. Her practice is one of inquiry that is sustained by the desire for understanding and personal expression. She works intuitively with materials, using paint, fabric, thread and found objects to express ideas.
Genevieve Jobes makes outside — intertidal interventions, midnight drawings and rain drenched paintings. Many of the surfaces she paints on are found, salvaged during morning foreshore walks. ‘Carried’ is the tide that binds, linking her family and creative friendships across the ocean.
