I spend a lot of time taking photos of Hector, capturing his form and character, his energy. Hector is the tiny wild animal that lives amongst us, he owns our apartment, he owns the food in it, and he owns us. Nothing seems more absurd to me than this fact, that this creature is the centre of our domestic universe. Never ending source of inspiration, a force of nature, Hector is the star of the show, and I am obsessed with capturing his life in images. I take the photos to compose the subject and sketch a simplified, graphic version which then becomes the template for a woodcut. I play with colour to reflect Hector’s personality, he’s anything but a beige cat.
