I’ve been focused on abstract art for a while now, but I love experimenting with different mediums. Earlier this year, I came up with an idea called the My Dark Heart Project. It all started from the notion of being a heart-led person and the consequences of that. From there, the project grew into a series of mini, stylised anatomical hearts, each with its own theme.

The two hearts in this exhibition explore the idea of warning signs and how they relate to the heart. Let’s face it—hearts can be tricky, fickle and even a bit dangerous at times. As the Emily Dickinson saying goes, “The heart wants what it wants,” and that isn’t always conducive to a peaceful existence. Sometimes, what we desire brings discomfort to ourselves or others. Opening up to love, following dreams and desires can often be daunting and seemingly fraught with risk but it’s one we often take anyway.

These hearts are meant to be playful and a bit cheeky, but they also have a layer of truth to them. They’re a reminder of the complicated, messy, and sometimes funny ways our hearts lead us through life.
