I am an artist and art educator, working in Sydney’s Inner West, specialising in drawing, painting and printmaking.
In recent years, I have been drawn to street posters and hoardings around our city as they become layered and then stripped by time and weather. Spending time at archaeological digs as a child revealed to me a world of remnants that emerged from the layers, speaking of previous times; surfaces telling a story of how they have become.
By choosing the printed material to collage and sand back as my starting point, I seek control of the medium but in revealing layers beneath, remain an explorer of chance encounters with text and image. Pages once intact and coherent become altered, fused with another to create a new story. By enlarging fragments and abstracting imagery, I create compositions that hint at imaginary worlds and other realities.
