People always leave marks on the environment. We cut down trees to make way for buildings. We tag those buildings with our names, and then we cover those tags with tags of other people’s names. In the Inner West, things are always changing. I got this piece of wood off the ground from a tree cut down by council, and I painted tags I saw on old buildings in the back end of Marrickville. As more and more new developments continue to be built, I think of these old tags and the people who left them as a record of what once was.
