Do you need to build and tone your drawing muscles? Do you want to stretch your creativity and improve your mark-making flexibility? Does your pencil plod when you want it to dance? Join me for ‘Drawing Exercise’. Together we will increase our creative fitness and deepen our understanding of this wonderful, and foundational, artistic practice using Drawing Projects: an exploration of the language of drawing by Mick Maslen and Jack Southern as our guide. This group is for anyone who loves to draw regardless of their level of expertise. If you can doodle you have all the skills you need to start.
Areas we will be exploring include:
  • Experimental mark-making
  • Blind drawing
  • Using tone and light
  • Contour drawing
  • Silencing our inner critic
  • Finding form

Notes for Allie: I have specified 8 consecutive Tuesdays. Other options would be:
  • fortnightly
  • another night of the week / Sundays 4.15-6.30pm
  • four Sundays 4.15-8.30pm
  • two weekends
About Kate Riley I have loved drawing for as long as I can remember. I finally took the plunge to make it one of the primary parts of my life when I quit my job as a graphic designer and enrolled in art school. There I had the privilege of being instructed by such amazing artists and teachers as Lynn Eastaway,  Bill Brown, Deborah Beck, Marco Luccio and Noel Thurgate. I graduated from the National Art School in 2010 with an honours degree in printmaking, and in 2022 I established Tiliqua Tiliqua gallery with my partner, but drawing remains my passion. Like everything worth doing, a drawing practice is something that needs to be constantly recharged and replenished. And shared! Which is why I am hoping you will join me for this workshop.
