I remember as a child my mother pointing out a Walter Burley Griffin house with steel doors and chevron pattern glazing bars. There was no mention of his architect wife and collaborator. Together they subdivided and designed many houses at Castlecrag. The titles of these prints have been named after some of the streets following the contours and around rocky outcrops. Marion was a brilliant illustrator, influenced by by Japanese wood block prints her boss Frank Lloyd Wright had brought back from his travels. My interest in the Griffins was revived researching for a group exhibition, “Architecture and Beyond” 2022, at the Griffin designed Willoughby Incinerator. This exhibition inverted the title ” Beyond Architecture”, about the Griffins at Sydney Power House Museum, curated by Dr Anne Watson. I went on to have a 30-year career in architecture followed by BFA (Hons) at the National Art School. I’m currently lino printing at Tiliqua Studio with assistance from Hashim Ali.
