Ro Murray uses relief printing to explore stories and places. Her work for Sydney Contemporary continues her research about the Hume and Hovell 1824 overland expedition from Lake George to Port Phillip Bay, as part of the colonial gaze to “discover” land, and to take for grazing. Her work uses the scroll form as a journey with geographic landmarks of Weereewaa, Murrumbidgee, Molonglo rivers, from topographical maps as a journal.
Murray comes from a career as an architect, through the National Art School as a mature aged student majoring in sculpture, to more recently print making at Tiliqua Tiliqua. This year she will again take part in the Canberra Art Biennial. Murray has staged many Solo exhibitions and been selected for many art prizes.
