ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I am a Northern Beaches based artist and printmaker and member of Warringah Printmaking Studios. I have exhibited widely in group exhibitions and in 2024 I was a finalist in the “Greenway Art Prize”.
I have always been fascinated by the White Australian Ibis and I often feel like I’m one of the few who actually appreciate their beauty. “In my artwork, ‘Urban Icon’, I challenge perceptions of the ibis, a bird often maligned as a pest and labelled as a “bin chicken”. Through collagraph printmaking, I highlight its resilience in adapting to urban landscapes after wetland loss. The ibis’s misunderstood plight serves as a metaphor for blurred boundaries between nature and human spaces. Ironically, the plate that I used to create this collagraph print, was crafted from a discarded cake board, echoing the ibis’s resourceful survival. By reclaiming this ‘trash’ and using it to create art, I invite viewers to reevaluate their relationship with urban wildlife and the boundaries that separate us from the natural world.”
